Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in District of Columbia v. Heller, 128 S. Ct. 2783 (2008), which held that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees an individual right to possess a handgun in the home for self-defense, the Law Center published Gun Regulation and the Second Amendment – Moving Forward After District of Columbia v. Heller. This brochure describes the Court’s opinion, emphasizing that the Court held that the right is not unlimited and allows for broad firearm regulation for public safety purposes.
