The District of Columbia (“District”) has enacted some of the strongest gun violence prevention legislation in the nation. Among other things, District law:

In 2009, 111 people died from firearm-related injuries in the District of Columbia. That year, the District of Columbia supplied a lower number of crime guns to other states per capita than any state, and was a significant importer of crime guns — guns originally purchased in another state that were recovered after being used in a crime in the District.
